My preference is to offload as much of the business logic into stored procedures as possible for both maintenance and application development efficiency.
Application developers aren't always the best database coders so this helps assure optimal use of the database as well.

While my technical origins are in assembly language and C back in the early 1980s, you can't do much on the web with those. PHP has been my preferred web development language since 2000. - Perl Development - Perl has been my favorite shell scripting language since the mid 1990s. While I prefer PHP for web development today, I still prefer Perl for offline scripting.
