The Rise of the Independent: Called Out as a Big Trend for 2012

by Aassia Haq

At the end of 2011, (doesn’t it already feel so long ago?)the team at MBO spent time solidifying our top 5 independent work predictions for the New Year.

Now that the New Year is here, others are taking notice. Earlier this week, the New York Times posted a piece on the jobs market, calling out the Rise of the Independent Worker.

If you’re, like us, getting back to your desk after time with friends and family – and thinking about ways to work and live smarter in 2012, you may enjoy our predictions infographic, our little way of giving our followers, friends and media contacts a better glimpse into the linked trends that we at MBO think are significant.

What we like about our visual story is that it reminds us to connect the trends to each of us personally: are we ready, have we thought about the personal or work implications, and what are we going to do about the trends we care about?

Our CEO Gene Zaino recently talked about the our predictions with Forbes – a thought piece that has generated considerable interest and dialogue. It’s timely given the uncertainty about the sustainability of traditional employment paths.

A big thanks to Phyllis Korki at NYT for a great piece on job-related trends to concentrate on, and a happy new year to you!
