The Top Three Questions To Ask if You’re Thinking About Going Solo
We started out the year, like everyone else, making some resolutions. It’s our team’s time to give back some of what we have learned over the years about a successful foray into independent work life – like the top three questions for a person to frame up on their journey to independent work.
We’re excited to be hosting a Webinar featuring Aassia Haq, our Chief Marketing
Officer (she’s been-there-done-that – other than helping MBO spearhead the first-ever research on independent work in America, she’s a bone-fide former independent worker, and formerly the head of a company that focused on serving the needs of those outside the formal workforce). She’ll be framing up the topic and chatting with MBO’s senior consulting advisor Sara Conde, (Who, by the way, runs her own radio show and knows more than a bit about how to share the great stories of independent workers we serve). Sara’s most recent story involves an independent scientist, a whale rig and a business expense… (but you’ll have to hear it from her).
Anecdotes of independence aside, the fact is that great IC’s (our industry jargon for
independent workers) are first and foremost planners.
These are smart folks who take their time and ask really good questions, something any aspiring IC can benefit from hearing -- so we’re ready for a good, rich chat. Whether or not they have the right number of pennies in the piggy bank to venture out, they are going to do the math. And whether or not they have had that difficult but exciting conversation with a spouse (whether about benefits, or childcare management), they are going to look for real-life advice and references before taking the leap.
Our most sincere advice is: no one is smarter than you. If the question of independent work is in your heart, or in your head, your instincts are to be trusted. What you need is the time and guidance to answer the questions to help you think about how to stay you -- but with a new independent hat on. To us, independent work life is not an abstract concept. We know this from speaking with consultants all day, every day, and serving tens of thousands over the years. It’s a human concept and it begins within.
We consider our job (and we do love it) to give you the right tools to successfully make
the leap. Come listen to us, join in the conversation and raise questions, and hear a little bit about life for those who already took the leap and are satisfied with their decision. Sign up today to hear the questions and answers for yourself
(By the way, if you are still in the phase of doing a true “Gut Check” before investing
additional time, you may want to take a moment to look at the first blog in our New Years’ series) . Or, you may want to see the stories a few of those brave souls who already made the jump in 2011 – hats off to them. Keep visiting our blog and we’ll share the pre-and-post mortem. (And, maybe, just maybe, the whale rig story).
