According to the latest five-year review of the region's economy by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, Fairfax County led the region in labor force growth with a gain of 51,959 jobs and led the region in 2007 in new commercial development, with nearly 6.6 million square feet of projects.
Most of the companies that worked with the FCEDA in the second quarter are American and foreign-owned firms in the information technology and professional services sectors. Among the businesses that said they will add jobs in Fairfax County:
"Much of the interest in Fairfax County at the moment is from foreign-owned businesses. This is, in part, due to the value of the dollar, but also to the realization that there are enormous business opportunities in this region," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. Gordon continued, "If you wish to be in this region, Fairfax County is the premiere location."
