The Dark Side of the Moon: Do You Really Know Your Contract Workforce?

The use of contract workers has grown fivefold since the 1980's, and nearly four out of five employers hire contractual help. The implications of the contingent work force have taken a radical turn in the past decade. The globalization and flattening of the world economy, the aging of the US workforce, and the demand for increased flexibility and mobility-these are only several of the  factors  driving the changes in CWM. Join us for this fascinating HCI webcast that will examine who your contract workers are-both today and in the future. We'll examine what drives the contingent worker, and how you can best capitalize your ROI. Presented by Dana Shaw of Staffing Industry Analysts.

Intuit Future of Small Biz Report

February, 21 2008 by mbopartners

The third installment of the Intuit Future of Small Business Report has arrived. A wonderful read, and all three papers in the series are worth consideration.

Download the paper, The New Entrepreneurial Economy.

This futurist paper predicts that, for small firms and individual "knowledge artisans", barriers to obtaining big business infrastructure will be dramatically reduced and available to small and personal businesses on a lower risk, variable cost structure. By 2018:

"Plug-and-play infrastructures will make small businesses more competitive and successful. The ability of small businesses to take advantage of large-scale infrastructure and leverage new technologies will allow them to enter and compete in industries formerly served only by big business" (p. 3).

I wonder if Intuit has been peeking at our mission statement? "Knowledge artisans" don't have to wait for the future anymore . . .
