After 37 years of being in the Marine Corps I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do post-retirement, but I knew I wanted to enjoy myself, have more freedom, and yet still make a positive contribution with my skills. So I became an independent consultant.

It was important to me to focus on actual consulting, not burning energy on the administration of a business. I thought about self-incorporating, but it’s a lot of work . . . and for some clients, it’s best to have an intermediary.
