Salesforce and MBO Partners: Engaging independent workers safely and efficiently
01 Introduction
Salesforce uses MBO Partners as its engagement services provider for non-U.S. independent workers and small businesses.
MBO's services include onboarding Salesforce-referred independents, handling the Coupa PR process to raise the PO/budget, offering benefits to eligible workers, and paying workers on Salesforce's behalf. MBO also indemnifies Salesforce for tax penalties if any MBO-engaged contractors are reclassified.
02 About MBO Partners
MBO Partners, the independent workforce solutions leader, helps Salesforce offer the most efficient and appealing engagement environment possible for its valued contractors and consultants. MBO's flexible engagement services ensure that Salesforce can manage non-U.S. contractor relationships efficiently while staying compliant with contractor-related regulations. MBO also provides contractors the highest level of advocacy and support throughout their Salesforce assignments. (Learn about MBO's engagement services at the bottom of this page.)
03 Processes for existing contractors

If you need to update the PO's end date ONLY:
Email the following information to salesforce@mbopartners.com.
- Contactor's name
- PO number
- Start date
- New end date
If you need to modify the PO's budget AND the end date:
Email the following information to salesforce@mbopartners.com.
- Contactor's name
- PO number
- Start date
- New end date
- Current PO budget
- Increase Amount
- New requested PO budget
- CC/BU
- On who's behalf are you submitting this request?
Extending system access
The contractor's manager is responsible for extending badge/system access as the manager will receive email notifications advising when the contractor is "de-provisioned" and lose all access.
To do so, login to the Concierge tile (available on Aloha page) and submit ticket that reads, "Please extend SF badge/system access for [contractor's name] through [date]."
Create a NEW PO/budget for an existing contractor
Complete the "New Independent Contractor Referral Form" for the MBO Team to raise a new PO/budget on the manager's behalf.
04 Referral / Onboarding process for new contractors
- To refer a contractor to MBO in Europe, complete this referral form.
- To refer a contractor to MBO in any country outside the U.S. and Europe, complete this referral form.
Once you submit project details (such as total budget, rate, start/end date, cost center, business unit, etc.), MBO will contact the worker to begin the onboarding process. MBO also uses the information you provide as documentation to submit for the budget in Coupa.
When completing the form:
- Only include a "contractor's expense budget" if one is supplied for his/her work. If you provide one, add this amount to the "total approved budget" (i.e., Expense Budget + Labor Budget = Total Approved Budget).
- Salesforce typically covers the MBO fee, but doing so is at your discretion. If you do, check the "Salesforce Covering MBO Fee" box.
- Salesforce Legal will not allow former Salesforce full-time employees to come back as contractors until six months after their last day at Salesforce. After that, Legal will review each referral on a case-by-case basis.
- Contact Chris Farmer at the Salesforce program office if you have questions on the process.
05 MBO's engagement services
MBO directs Salesforce-referred contractors into one of two engagement services depending on their characteristics, expectations, and business qualifications. In-country regulations may inform service selection.
- Vendor Services, a business-to-business engagement service for independent professionals who meet Salesforce's criteria to engage as qualified vendors. Independent professionals interested in engaging through Vendor Services must pass a qualification evaluation during the onboarding process. MBO invoices Salesforce for approved time/expense submissions and pays contractors upon receipt of Salesforce's payment.
- Payroll Services, a conventional W-2 payrolling solution for hourly workers who do not consider themselves true independent business practitioners. Note that overtime applies; as a result, you must accommodate for anticipated overtime costs in your Purchase Order. MBO pays contractors weekly from the onset of their assignments.
