AARP and MBO Partners: Engaging independent workers safely and efficiently
01 Engaging non-employees at AARP
Select the appropriate option below to begin your request. If you're not sure, review the detailed definitions below the options.
Temporary Workers
Temporary Workers (often known as "temps") are hourly employees of a staffing firm and temporarily assigned to AARP. The staffing firm serves as the employer of record and AARP's hiring managers provide day-to-day work direction and approve weekly timecards. Examples of Temporary Worker engagements include accounting support, administrative assistants, etc.
Independent Contractors (IC / SOW)
ICs operate their own businesses (LLC, C Corp, S Corp, etc.) of one to 5 workers. Typically, ICs are project-based and are paid upon completion of project deliverables and/or milestones outlined in an AARP SOW (though not always). ICs offer project-based services for which AARP has the right to control only the result and outcome of the work. Examples of IC engagements include graphic designers, management consultants, system developers, etc.
Large Service Providers (SOW)
Large Service Providers are businesses entities that AARP engages to deliver a specified result, service, or product that has a fixed end date governed by an SOW. Large Service Providers assign the number of workers needed to complete the deliverables of the project. Examples include PwC, KPMG, Accenture, etc.
Still unsure? Contact AARP procurement for further instructions.

03 AARP and MBO
AARP partners with MBO to source, evaluate, classify, and manage its independent workers (contractors, consultants, 1099s, freelancers, etc.).
AARP uses MBO Partners as its engagement services provider for independent workers (a.k.a. contractors, consultants, freelancers, small services providers, and non-employee workers). MBO ensures proper legal classification for AARP-referred independents, onboards the workers, offers benefits to those who are eligible, pays workers on AARP's behalf, and provides day-to-day support.
MBO Partners helps AARP offer the most efficient and appealing engagement environment possible for its valued independent talent. MBO's flexible engagement services (below) ensure that AARP can manage contractor relationships efficiently while staying compliant with contractor-related regulations. MBO also provides independents the highest level of advocacy and support throughout their AARP assignments.
Established in 1996, MBO is ISO 9001-certified, GSA-certified, and has passed all annual SOC audits.
04 Talent Sourcing Support
If you do not already have a contractor in mind, MBO's Independent Talent Network team can help.
AARP's dedicated ITN Team Manager will work with you to attract and hire from the pool of 140,000+ Talent inside of MBO's marketplace. This Fortune 500-proven Talent exists across 18 skill domains and over 112 specialties, including marketing, writers, coaches, facilitators, finance, accounting, program mangers, risk and compliance. Note that a small sourcing fee applies for successful placements (15%), which is in addition to MBO's standard engagement service fees. This combined fee is still a fraction of the cost of working with traditional staffing suppliers.
Sourcing process: When you need MBO's help finding a contractor for a role, email Kelsey Moynihan at kmoynihan@mbopartners.com with:

-
- The position's title, estimated pay range, key skill requirements, location(s) / remote, and estimated project duration (start and end dates).
Your ITN Team Manager will follow up to finalize the details of the role and then begin the process of recruiting, screening, and submitting vetted Talent for your review. For most roles, MBO's ITN team can deliver high-quality talent in 72 hours or less. You simply select the candidate which best matches your needs and we will then initiate our standard onboarding process.
